Let us introduce ourselves
We are Karin and Michiel de Wit, and we have been the owners of the Gouwe Stek since 2020.
Karin's parents were the owners before that. After working in the company for years, we decided to take over the company.
Michiel previously worked in fine woodworking, and Karin taught for years, both in primary and secondary education. We have 2 children. We also have a dog Sam and 2 tomcats and 2 cats. They love to be petted. We live in the house on the property.
We mainly run the company together and have support from a cleaner and someone in landscaping.
When we got the key at the end of 2019, we got to work on renovating the site, the campsite and the group accommodation. Our (returning) guests really appreciate this. In 2020 we opened a new field, the Paardenbloem field. A lovely spacious field, at the back of the site.
In recent years we have changed several things such as the camper-free site, the chemical toilet, and a fenced football field has been constructed. A large playhouse with a football table has also been built in the Trefpunt. We have also invested in comfort pitches, with their own water and drainage. We have also installed 60 extra solar panels on the roof, in addition to the current 127 that were already there, so that we can save even more energy.
We have also tackled the current sanitary buildings. For example, building "Rood" has been given a lockable sink, new toilets (for guests who have been there before; the plank toilets are gone), and water-saving taps and showers have been installed. Building "Groen" has also been refurbished with water-saving showers and taps, and there is a nice hand soap everywhere. The washing-up areas have also been refurbished and improved.
On the Paardenbloem field, 2 complete bathrooms have been installed with washing-up areas, and 2 toilets. We have constructed a beautiful path over the Trappelend field and Skapewoid so that we can now create a one-way road across the site. The playground equipment has also been refurbished and renewed where necessary. We have also removed 2 gypsy caravans and the Konkelboet and added 2 safari tents. We have adapted the shed so that cyclists can sit dry here. The parking spaces have also been updated, and since 2024 we have had a charging station.
We have adapted our group accommodation to 7 bedrooms instead of 6, the entire facade has been renovated and plastic frames and doors have been installed. A wall has also been placed inside, so that the Trefpunt and the group accommodation are more separated from each other. The group accommodation has also been fitted with damping panels.
New equipment has also been placed on the barefoot path, the entrance has been changed, and since this year there has been a photo frame with a hashtag. In the coming years we want to expand and change the path in various places.
In short, a lot has been done in recent years. And we are still full of plans such as a new sanitary building is on our planning, but this plan is with the municipality, we hope that we will receive approval for this soon. Because we would like to have this realized in the winter of 2025/2026.
